Created by faculty and founders of the American School for the Deaf in Hartford during the early 19th century\, it was inspired by several other sign languages developed in both Europe and America. Today\, ASL is used by hundreds of thousands of people across the United States to communicate. \nJoin the Wilton Historical Society in exploring ASL through a four part series that will offer an introduction to learning the language as well as its history. Classes will be held on four consecutive Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 – October 19th\, October 26th\, November 2nd\, and November 9th. \nRegistration is required and is for all four classes. She’ll share her experience with us – the highs\, the lows and the unexpected. \nThe Camino de Santiago is a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. For hundreds of years\, people have walked it for religious\, spiritual\, physical and other personal reasons. Pilgrims\, as the walkers are called\, make their way from one of many starting points\, ending at the Cathedral in Santiago. Lisa’s journey was a deeply personal one\, as well as a physical challenge. Her walk took her through big cities\, tiny villages\, wide open fields and deep forests. Visit the farm any time from dawn to dusk between November 1st and 5th to drop off your jack-o-lanterns\, pumpkins or gourds to be composted right here at the farm. Please note\, no paint\, glitter\, googly eyes or candles are compostable as they can contaminate the compost when processed. No other food scraps or other organic materials can be dropped off. \nPull into the main entrance at 257 Hurlbutt St. and head to the top of the driveway by the Red Barn. Look for signage for the Pumpkin Drop and you can drop your goods in the bins provided.

DESCRIPTION:Give the gift of a smile this holiday season! Last year\, our drive provided gift packages for over 125 children facing a cancer diagnosis. There are many ways to get involved with our holiday gift drive. Become one of Binky’s Porch Elves and help deliver joy to children with cancer in Connecticut. \nCircle of Care’s holiday gift drive will provide custom gift packages to children with cancer who have been helped by our Financial Assistance program this year with the items collected and delivered by generous “elves” like you! If you or your organization would like to host a physical collection drive for gift items\, please email emma.flanagan@thecircleofcare.org to be provided with a list of suggested items to kickstart your drive. \nOur gift drive relies on donations of items\, monetary donations\, and delivery volunteers to ensure we can brighten the holiday season for as many families as possible. \nAll gifts\, though\, will need to be received by Circle of Care by Friday\, December 1st so our volunteer elves have time to sort\, wrap\, and deliver them to each child’s front door!

DESCRIPTION:The Rotary Club of Wilton together with the Knights of Columbus Bishop Fenwick Assembly 100 will host its family carnival from Sept. 22-24\, 2023! The carnival will be held at the corner of School Road and Route 7. Carnival hours are: Friday\, Sept. 22\, 6-10 p.m.\, Saturday Sept. 23\, 12- 10 p.m.\, and Sunday Sept. 24\, 12–5 p.m. \nThe Carnival is a great family event and a wonderful way to kick of the autumn season and new school year for the youngsters! The event will offer over a dozen different rides for all ages as well as multiple games and other activities for the whole family. Additionally\, there will be a variety of food trucks and food vendors throughout the weekend event. \nAdmission and parking is free. Wristbands for unlimited rides will be sold for $30 per wristband for each time slot. Individual ride tickets are also available. Volunteers from the Wilton Rotary Club and Knight of Columbus will be overseeing the ticket booth and assisting with wristbands. \nAll proceeds from the carnival will go back into the community to support projects in Wilton as well as global humanitarian programs led by Rotary International. Rotary Club of Wilton is a service club of volunteers with a goal of providing support and funding for local community improvement projects\, non-profit agencies\, youth leadership initiatives\, international humanitarian programs\, and polio eradication worldwide.
